12/15/11 COUNTY APPROVE’S RESOLUTION FOR CONVENTION CENTER
On October 27, 2011 St. Clair County and the City of Port Huron announced the Blue Water Area Convention Center and the conversion of the Thomas Edison Inn into a Hilton Garden Inn. In 2009, the Economic Development Strategic Plan identified the need for a Convention Center. Now St. Clair County and Port Huron will team up to fulfill this need. The County will be releaseing $9M in bonds to pay for the center. The bonds will not require taxpayers dollars, the bonds are the counties way to take out a low interest loan and allow private investors to buy the bonds to pay them back.
