Education

The goal of our committee is to foster a strong alliance between local businesses, educators, community leaders, and economic developers in ongoing efforts increase the percentage of adults with an associate degree or higher; to increase the region’s awareness of the importance of education to each individuals economic future, and; enhance the education system to closely intergrate with desired economic objectives.

 The Eduation Committee mirrors the KnowHow2Go program and continues to expand on those initiatives.  In October 2011, KnowHow2GO received a grant from the Michigan College Access Network to support college access efforts. As part of the grant, our committee will be working with the Strive team from Cincinnati, OH. Research from Stanford University identified Strive as an exemplar in broad-based community coordination leading to large-scale social change.  Strive success is based on five key components: (1) Common Agenda; (2) Shared Measurement Systems; (3) Mutually Reinforcing Activities; (4) Continuous Communication; and (5) Backbone Support Organizations. We will be working to embed these powerful practices in our St. Clair County work, including organizing our meetings and reporting around the five components.
